Rajkot civic body receives Rs 23 crore advance property tax payments after discount scheme, ET RealEstate
RAJKOT: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) received advance property tax payments of Rs 23 crore within five days of announcing its discount scheme for those who pay early.
According to RMC, it received advance property tax and water charges amounting to Rs 23.19 crore from 44,404 taxpayers. Of this, payment of Rs 19 crore was received online. RMC gave discounts totalling around Rs 2 crore to these taxpayers, according to the scheme.
RMC began collecting property tax on April 10 with its discount scheme. The civic body provides a 10% discount on property tax paid before May 31. This will continue in June with a 5% discount. There is a 5% additional discount if the property is owned by a woman and a 1% rebate for paying online. There is also a 1% rebate to those who paid their tax early for the last three years.
RMC, in the last financial year, collected Rs 412 crore in property tax from 4.18 lakh taxpayers.
