GURUGRAM: Three houses illegally constructed on a green area, earmarked as a park, of the licensed colony of South City 1, were razed by the enforcement wing of the town and country planning department. These constructions had come up illegally on the designated green area as per the colony’s approved layout plan.

According to DTCP officials, the illegal constructions included two fabricated sheds and one semi-pucca structure.

District town planner (enforcement) Amit Madholia, who supervised the operation, said, “The green area is meant to be used as a common area. Such illegal encroachments are a direct violation of the norms laid out in the colony’s layout plan. These actions send a strong message that violations will not be tolerated, no matter how small or large.”

The DTCP issued prior notices to the encroachers, but no response or corrective action was taken, prompting the department to initiate the demolition under police protection.

Residents of South City 1, one of Gurgaon’s prominent residential colonies, welcomed the move. “This has been a long-standing issue. These illegal houses were eating into our only green space. We are thankful that the authorities have finally taken strict action,” said Deepa Malhotra.
