BMC initiates the demolition of unauthorised building in Dongri, ET RealEstate
MUMBAI: The BMC has initiated the demolition of unauthorised construction in a 22-storey high-rise on Zakaria Masjid Street in Dongri. BMC officials said the builder allegedly carried out unauthorised construction on six floors reserved for parking and refuge areas.
Officials said more than 40 residential flats, apart from shops and godowns, were constructed on the six floors. Before carrying out the demolition, the civic body issued a notice to the builder. Ward officials said the demolition action will continue for a few days, and they have cleared the ground floor so far.
“Some of the residents sought time to remove their belongings on their own, and we have to take that into consideration. Besides, we require adequate police protection too for continuously carrying out the action,” said a BMC official. BMC’s B-Ward officials said a writ petition was filed seeking action against unauthorised construction in the refuge and parking area of Noble Tower, and Bombay High Court in April directed the BMC to take action in accordance with the law.
