Etihad signs up to IATA’s turbulence tracking network
Etihad Airways has become the newest member of IATA’s Turbulence Aware programme, a global initiative that gathers real-time, anonymised data on turbulence from participating airlines.
This information helps pilots and flight dispatchers plan smoother and more efficient flight routes by minimising exposure to turbulent conditions.
Etihad Airways will integrate the Turbulence Aware platform across its entire fleet of nearly 100 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with each flight automatically contributing turbulence reports to the programme.
By joining the initiative, Etihad Airways’ expansive global network will enhance data coverage across the Middle East and five continents. As more airlines participate, the programme’s data quality and predictive capability continue to strengthen, improving safety and comfort across the industry.
Captain Majed Al Marzouqi, interim chief operations and guest officer at Etihad Airways, said: “As part of our commitment to safety, we are pleased to join IATA’s Turbulence Aware programme and leverage our extensive network and fleet to support the industry in effectively managing turbulence. With real-time, accurate data, pilots can effectively navigate turbulence resulting in smoother journeys.”

We welcome Etihad Airways’ participation in Turbulence Aware, which strengthens the industry’s ability to mitigate the impact of turbulence in real time.
“Their contribution will further improve global coverage, ensuring flight crews have the information they need to make safer and more efficient operational decisions.”
IATA says the quality of its Turbulence Aware data will improve as more airlines contribute to the platform. More than 25 airlines are participating in the programme so far with more than 2,600 aircraft operating the software, resulting in more than 51 million reports in 2024.
