Nagpur civic body to build 2,500 new homes under Ramai Housing Scheme in FY26, ET RealEstate
NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has set an ambitious target of constructing 2,500 new houses under the Ramai Housing Scheme in the financial year 2025-26.
The scheme, aimed at providing housing for Scheduled Castes and Neo-Buddhists, has already helped 5,795 families secure new homes.
To realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s vision of ‘housing for all,’ municipal commissioner and administrator Abhijeet Chaudhari strengthened efforts to implement the scheme more effectively through NMC’s slum department. As per the 2017 govt resolution, urban beneficiaries with an annual income of up to Rs3 lakh are eligible for a subsidy of Rs2.5 lakh towards house construction.
To date, NMC spent Rs112.40 crore out of the total Rs142.43 crore sanctioned, providing assistance to nearly 5,800 families. In the ongoing financial year, around 1,500 new beneficiaries have already been added.
Zone-wise, Ashi Nagar recorded the highest number of beneficiaries with 1,695 families assisted so far, followed by Hanuman Nagar with 609, Laxmi Nagar with 558, Dharampeth with 552, Satranjipura with 513, Mangalwari with 481, Nehru Nagar with 423, Lakadganj with 398, Dhantoli with 347, and Gandhibagh with 219.
To widen the scheme’s reach, NMC organised zone-wise camps between January 1-28, 2024, under the leadership of the municipal commissioner and the commissioner of social welfare. These camps saw close to 2,500 applications from members of the Scheduled Castes and Neo-Buddhist communities seeking housing support. In the previous financial year, the civic body approved 1,107 new homes under the scheme.
