Faith meets the future as business students explore calling – News

A group of students in the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business gathered weekly this spring to explore the intersection of faith and vocation in a new Bible study: Business & the Bible. 

Students dug into topics like how God’s word informs our use of time, talent and treasure, and what it means to live out their calling. They wrestled with questions about purpose, leadership and generosity — through the lens of their profession. This initiative is a powerful example of students exploring character, initiative and calling — hallmarks of a Campbell education.

The group began after faculty and staff noticed more students sharing how central their faith was to their college journey. Jessica Boone (accounting chair) and Renee Green (director of leadership and student success) responded with a space for deeper exploration — one that challenged students to ask, What does it look like to lead with faith in the marketplace?

“Business and the Bible was an option that offered a safe space for much needed discussions and questions that tie our faith with our career,” said Boone. “It was a two-fold meeting that left all parties involved better equipped to be bold and rooted. There is a proverb that states, ‘iron sharpens iron…’ — I believe that was true of our time in BnB.”

“The most valuable insight for me has been that it is both wise and scriptural to delegate,” one student shared. “One does not have to do everything by oneself.”

Another student reflected, “I thought the discussions about work/life balance and how it relates to church and your daily spiritual walk were interesting. I could tell that others had the same challenges and situations that I’ve experienced, and I appreciated sharing faith and advice.”
