Injunction issued in WI lawsuit over library and business funding | News
MADISON (WKOW) — Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul (D-WI) announced a preliminary injunction was issued against the Trump administration’s plan to dismantle three federal agencies.
The targeted agencies include the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Minority Business Development Agency, and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
The dismantling of these agencies threatened programs vital to Wisconsin, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ). As one example, the DOJ said the University of Wisconsin System Office of Business & Entrepreneurship faced potential cancellations of training and services due to grant terminations.
According to the DOJ, U.S. District Court Chief Judge John McConnell, Jr. supported the injunction, stating it is “appropriate and necessary.”
“This ruling is yet another decision concluding that the Trump administration is likely violating the law,” Kaul said.
Kaul’s lawsuit is supported by attorneys general from 20 other states, including California, New York, and Illinois.
