The Derby Chamber of Commerce is getting set to kick off the summer season with a brand new event, the Bingo Night: Backyard Bash, with the inaugural edition to be held from 6-9 p.m. June 7 at the Hubbard Arts Center (309 N. Woodlawn Blvd.).
Attending a regional conference with other chambers from Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, Chamber Director of Marketing and Special Events Lindsi Berry noted hearing about the success of a similar event in Benton, Ark., spurred chamber staff to bring the idea back home to Derby.
“We felt it would be a fun addition to our own lineup – something new, different and easy for people to participate in as a way to kick off the summer,” Berry said.
Open to the public – not just chamber members – the evening’s festivities will feature 15 bingo games (plus one bonus grand prize game) with cash prizes up for grabs. The grand prize game, a blackout round, will feature a $1,000 cash prize.
Keeping with the summer theme, casual attire is encouraged – including flip flops, breezy shirts, etc. In addition to the bingo games, there will be concessions available for purchase at the event.
Admission is $20 and includes a bingo card for each game along with a bingo dauber. An additional 15 cards for each game can be purchased for $15, with grand prize game cards costing $10 each. Guests must be 18 or older to attend, with seating limited to 200 participants.
“This is our first time doing Bingo Night, and the response so far has been really positive. People are looking forward to a fun evening with friends, a chance to win cash and something different to do in Derby,” Berry said. “We’d love for this to become a new favorite event in the community.”
