LUCKNOW: In the past 11 months, govt has acquired around 13,500 acres of land between Jhansi and Kanpur for establishing a new industrial city under the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA).

A govt spokesperson on Wednesday said 17,840 acres have been acquired already. The total project is expected to spread over 35,300 acres. This will be the second industrial city to be developed in UP after NOIDA, which was established in 1976. Saying that work to acquire land for the project was fast-tracked, the official stated that of the land acquired so far, 12,700 acres had been privately owned, while 5,140 acres belonged to various govt departments.

“This large-scale and systematic acquisition reflects the state govt’s foresight and determination. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally overseeing the initiative, with progress being reviewed daily,” he said.

The official said the industrial city in Bundelkhand was an effort by the govt to strengthen region’s economic foundations. “Projects like the defence corridor and the industrial city are poised to create substantial employment opportunities for local youth,” the official added.

To augment the upcoming infrastructure developments, the govt has also started work on upgrading existing infrastructure and improving connectivity through roads and enhanced connectivity.
