Stamp duty collections in Nagpur fall seven per cent short of target for FY25, ET RealEstate

NAGPUR: Stamp duty collections in the city fell short of the target by 7% for the financial year ending March 2025. The government had set a target of ₹1,800 crore, but the actual collection stood at ₹1,675 crore.

Sources said the dip in collections indicates that real estate transactions did not align with the government’s expectations. Additionally, the absence of a significant hike in the ready reckoner rates in previous years may have contributed to the lower revenue, they added.

The ready reckoner rates are the basic minimum level at which the stamp duty has to be paid. While previous years saw only modest increases of 4% to 5%, the current year has seen a rise of up to 10% in certain pockets. This is expected to boost collections in the 2025–26 fiscal year, sources said.

Stamp duty collections in rural areas—beyond municipal limits—also fell short, totaling ₹559 crore, which is 3% below the target. Officials noted that while the target for rural areas had been revised upwards, it ultimately could not be met.
