Representatives of CRIC in Trichy urge government to reduce the cost of m-sand, ET RealEstate
TRICHY: Representatives of the Construction and Real Estate Industry Coalition (CRIC), have demanded the state govt to reduce the cost of m-sand, as it is affecting their business.
Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the state-level meeting convened in Trichy on Tuesday, CRIC president Pon Kumar said, “The increase in prices and scarcity of construction materials have become a challenge for builders, particularly the cost of m-sand. The abrupt increase in m-sand price also increases the overall expenses and affects our businesses. We request the chief minister to reduce the price and ensure that the material is available in quality and quantity.”
Kumar said CRIC is discussing with the builders’ associations to plan their actions to reduce the m-sand price. “The Union and state govt should form a permanent committee and include stakeholders like govt representatives, manufacturers, and consumers. Meetings should be convened every six months to control the price,” he added.
CRIC demanded that the sand quarries be reopened wherever possible to mine river sand and fulfil the demand for construction materials. “Mining under permissible limits should be allowed,” Kumar said.
The meeting discussed various issues about the construction and real estate businesses.
The coalition also discussed forming ‘green clean streets’ in collaboration with residents’ associations in each district to combat climate change and global warming. They also discussed providing benefits such as health insurance for the construction workers.
