Pune Cantonment Board proposes two FSI for civil areas, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate

PUNE: An increase in the Floor Space Index (FSI) from the existing 1 to 2 for civil areas has been proposed by Pune Cantonment Board.

The board submitted its proposal to the Principal Directorate of Defence Estates (PDDE) of Southern Command for consideration before sending it to the Directorate General of Defence Estates in New Delhi for a final approval. C Ravindra, principal director of Southern Command, did not respond to calls and text messages.

This move is crucial for construction activities in the civil pockets of the cantonment spread over about 250 acres. It will also decide the fate of about 2,500 properties that are divided into the six wards in the cantonment limit.

Over the years, citizens have been demanding additional FSI. However, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) never paid heed. In March, the ministry, through the DGDE office, issued a directive to all the cantonment boards across the country to prepare new building byelaws. Accordingly, the PCB initiated the exercise.

“We prepared the byelaws and validated them through the experts of College of Engineering Pune Technical University before submitting them to the directorate for approval,” a senior official from the PCB said.

Sachin Mathurawala, nominated member of the cantonment board, told TOI, “We cleared the proposal at the board meeting which was attended by the PCB CEO and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Southern Command Dakshin Maharashtra and Goa Sub Area, who is the head of the Local Military Authority. Additional FSI in the civil pockets of the cantonment is necessary, considering future development. People have been demanding this for decades, and therefore, we proposed it for 2 FSI. This is the first step in the process. A final decision is awaited.”
