RANCHI: A joint inspection drive by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), district officials and the traffic police exposed numerous violations across the city’s major commercial areas. The inspection team, led by RMC administrator Sandeep Singh, hit the streets of the state capital on Monday and surveyed key locations including Kutchery Chowk, Shaheed Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk, Daily Market, and Anjuman Plaza.
The inspection team uncovered violations such as unauthorized conversion of parking spaces into commercial units, illegal building extensions, and widespread street encroachments. Officials announced that properties violating building and zoning regulations would undergo self-assessment for accurate tax compliance.
Sanjay Kumar, additional administrator of RMC, said, “Many commercial properties are misusing parking areas as shops or storage units, affecting traffic flow and violating municipal regulations. Non-compliant buildings will face assessment and subsequent action.”
Officials halted construction work near Shastri Market due to pending plan verification and stopped an unauthorized PVC work at a Sarjana Chowk building. Structures with illegal additions at M. Bazar and City Style for survey and action were also identified.
In Daily Market, enforcement teams removed vendors and hawkers from public walkways, citing obstructions in pedestrian movement. “Encroachments are a persistent issue. We will strengthen our monitoring efforts and take necessary action,” Kumar added.
Officials also ordered the removal of redundant electricity poles and management of hanging wires in commercial spaces in the city.
