Nashik development body to plan integrated development using government land bank, ET RealEstate
NASHIK: The Nashik Metropolitan Regional Development Authority will now outline integrated development plans for the overall development of the rural areas within its jurisdiction, which spans across six talukas around and outside Nashik city limits.
The Nashik Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (NMRDA) received land parcels measuring 13,645 hectares, across 190 villages in six talukas, within its jurisdiction. The next step is to locate these places, determine if they are encroached upon, and decide what the locations can be used for and what kind of public infrastructure can be created there.
“We will identify these places that have now been transferred to the NMRDA by the district administration. This will take some time as they are spread across the six talukas, and NMRDA currently has low manpower,” said a senior officer.
Urbanisation in the peri-urban and semi-urban areas is rapidly increasing, but a lack of funds with the local self-governing bodies, like gram panchayats and even the municipal councils, creates problems in the systematic development of these areas. “This is where the NMRDA’s role will come into play. As the authority will facilitate the creation of infrastructure and monitor harmonised development in the areas, it will also use govt lands and reserve them for specific purposes, including civic infrastructure like grounds for sports, public services including water and sewage treatment plants, and much more. The integrated plan will be created for the purpose,” said the officer.
The NMRDA will now be the custodian of govt land parcels handed over to it by the district administration, meaning the land rights can be changed or decided only by the authority.
“The authority will soon come up with a policy for land use, including giving it on lease, so that there is no haphazard development, and developments are carried out in the interest of the people,” said the officer.
The NMRDA has started development in Chandshi and Jalalpur villages in the peri-urban areas of Nashik city. The layouts have been finalised, and the NMRDA is now taking steps to lay drainage lines, which are critical for the development of the area, besides the construction of roads in the future.
