Tampa coffee roaster lands west coast distribution deal

Tampa-based coffee brand Buddy Brew announced Monday its first expansion to California.

Buddy Brew’s canned cold brew BOLT, named for its origins in the “lightning capital of the world,” according to a statement from the company, will be sold in Erewhon Market through a distribution deal.

Erewhon Market is a grocery chain that began in Boston in the 1960s and now comprises 10 markets in Los Angeles County. According to the company’s website, it was founded on ideals built around an organic diet and is considered the first natural foods store in the country.

“BOLT isn’t just coffee, it’s an experience,” says Susan Ward, co-founder and president of Buddy Brew Coffee in the statement. “At Buddy Brew, we believe in providing clean, organic energy that fuels both the body and the mind. We’re thrilled to partner with Erewhon to bring BOLT to a community that appreciates exceptional, clean products.”

Other grocers that carry BOLT include Sprouts and Whole Foods.

Buddy Brew was founded in Tampa in 2009 by Dave and Susan Ward and named after the family labrador. The company has over 100 employees across eight locations in Tampa Bay according to its website.
